Kelli and I have known each other virtually for many years. We are members of the same mastermind group. Kelli is an accomplished speaker, commanding the stage across the nation and internationally. Her mission is to empower people to optimal health through education and entertainment. She presents on a wide variety of healthcare and leadership topics. She is energetic, funny, motivating, and extremely knowledgeable. Kelli currently serves as President of the National Speakers Association – Oregon Chapter. She is also an author; her book Martinis & Menopause: Strategies, Science, and Sips that Empower Women to Beat the Hormone Groan is a wealth of knowledge for those seeking answers to what is happening to their bodies during this transitional time of life. Click here to check it out on Amazon.

In our time together I asked Kelli some questions on how she takes back her life during difficult circumstances. Kelli is a breast cancer survivor, having undergone a double mastectomy in February of 2020.

When Covid-19 hit, she saw her speaking business crumble as conferences and large meetings shut down. To say it has been a year of unprecedented change for her is not an exaggeration.

Her dedication and determination of how she lives her life definitely shines through in every area. From going through the process of being diagnosed with cancer, surgery, recovery, and pivoting her business to virtual experience during the pandemic, she is a true champion.

Her POWER WORD of 2020 is HEALTH. That means health in all parts of her life.

What would be your top 3 tips for Self Care?

  • Creating and maintaining boundaries. When boundaries are clear, you are free to listen to your own needs and take care of you.
  • Taking quiet time. Know yourself, listen to what your mind and soul are telling you. Practice gratitude. Daily quiet time.
  • Movement. A life of movement is essential to Self Care. It is taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking further away from the store, playing outside with the kids, going for a bike ride. Scheduled exercise is important too, always making the movement of your body a priority!

Who is on your dream team?

Surrounding yourself with the right people is an important part of taking back your life. I often talk about creating your dream team. A group of people that are there to support and elevate you.

Kelli does have a dream team.

I know it is important-especially in my business to have the right people around me.

My first dream team member is my husband – my partner! He supports my business endeavors and encourages me in new directions.

I also have a branding manager, social media manager, back office manager. These are my business confidants. There is one more space on my dream team I am looking to fill and that is a virtual assistant, someone to help me with the daily tasks.

Our dream teams can change over time. They are fluent depending on our lifestyle.

Have you had a time in your life that you felt you needed to take back your life?

Yes, When I found myself as a single mom, supporting myself and my two children.

Coming from a family of hardworking people that never went to college (I was the first), I knew I needed and wanted more. I started college when I was 30 years old. It took me 5 years to get my Bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene. That profession has served me very well.

I went on to get my Master’s in communication and adult education because I wanted to position myself differently in the world and create more opportunities for myself.

Every path that I take leads me to my purpose.

This career had afforded me opportunities for advancement, from teaching at the university level to working for a corporate dental company in marketing and sales, to being a president of the largest dental hygienist association in the country. During the 5 years I was single I knew that there were bigger things coming. I now enjoy my husband of 20 years, my grown children, my own business and so much more. I am a true believer in affirmations and goal setting, but you need to take action.
